Invisible and fixed retainers after your brace treatment

Retainers are used to hold your teeth straight as a follow up to your fixed brace treatment. They reduce the risk of your teeth going crooked again and will need to be worn for a minimum of one year. However, we always advise our patients to wear their retainers on a long term basis, as teeth can move throughout your life.

Invisible Retainers

At Cleveland Orthodontics, we provide “invisible” retainers for all of our patients. These are comfortable to wear and are barely noticeable if worn throughout the day. Alternatively you can just wear them at night time. It is extremely important that you wear your retainers as we advise. Otherwise, your teeth may not stay straight.

Some patients prefer fixed (bonded) retainers in addition to removable retainers. This option can be discussed at the start of treatment.

Replacements

If you lose or break your retainers, it is important that you telephone the practice as soon as possible so that we can arrange an appointment with you to get them replaced.

There is a charge for replacement retainers and we will let you know what this is when you ring for your appointment.
