Important Information: Please Read

  • It is important that patients wear retainers on a long-term basis as instructed
  • If retainers are not worn long term, teeth may move back to their original position. This is called ‘relapse’
  • Please get in touch with the practice for advice as soon as possible if you have broken or lost your retainers.

If retainers are either broken or not fitting correctly:

Your braces may need to be replaced if they are broken into pieces. They may also need replacing if they do not fit or if they are too loose.

If there are only small cracks in the retainers they may still be useable, providing they fit well. The orthodontic team will advise you.

Lost retainers

If retainers are lost, new impressions will need to be taken so that new retainers are made.

Cost of replacement retainers

There is an NHS charge for the replacement of broken or lost retainers. Our team will advise you of this before you attend the practice as payment must be made on the day that new impressions are taken.
